Lafayette Academy Charter School/The Choice Foundation

Opportunity

Generate media coverage for an arbitration award ruling won by the Choice Foundation, the governing entity of Lafayette Academy Charter School, against its education management company, Mosaica Education.  The Choice Foundation sued Mosaica for its extreme mismanagement of the school during the 2006 – 2007 school year, which resulted in a 30% passing rate by students on the L.E.A.P. test, teacher turnover, lack of textbooks and other supplies, and an uncleanly property, among other issues.  As part of the award, the Choice Foundation received $250,000 and was able to terminate the remaining four years of its five year contract with Mosaica Education.
